The Best of What Yukon has to Offer: Dog Sledding, Archery, and Bannocks
Yesterday was a fantastic day.
It started off with sunshine and a clear blue sky. The parents drove the kids up to the mountains surrounding Fish Lake for what turned out to be a day filled with adventure and good times.
Fish Lake and the surrounding valley is the perfect spot to experience the best of what Yukon has to offer. The view from the lake with the snow covered mountains in the background is absolutely stunning.
Throughout the day, the kids took turns dog sledding around the lake. Then the kids learned to art of archery and shooting at a wooden moose target. This is far harder than you can imagine.
Then the kids got a chance to jibs ski while being pulled by a skidoo, ice fishing, and bannock-making (fried bread from Yukon), and disc golf.
The day ended with an overnight sleep over at Jackson Lake. Once again, thanks to everyone for making this day happen.
Special thanks to Annaka for Chris for setting up the fort and running the bannock-making station; Scott for cutting 20 some or more holes in the ice and teaching the kids the art of ice fishing; Amanda and Alain for arranging the jibs ski skidoing; Fran for teaching the kids some essential Yukon bush skills (i.e. how to start a fire), a lively rendition Robert Service's story of Sam McGee and organizing the Yukon winter carnival with Scott and Annaka; and Jane for teaching the kids how to become master archers and making sure that no one gets killed by a stray arrow; Jeff for teaching the kids how not to lose your disc in the snow while playing disc golf on a lake covered with snow; and for Aisha for hanging out and getting a start on her suntan :).

A sunny day 2!
A sunny second day was great to see Yukon animals up close, soak in the hot springs and have a chilly evening ice climb!
Tomorrow we are off to Fish Lake for dog sledding, challenge stations and a sleep over before we head out for our over the mountain ski.
